Fish: Tipping the Scales of Intelligence in their Favor!

................................................................

I had a funny fish tale experience once - at a coffeehouse. There was a medium fish tank with one tough looking fish who was about the size of a danish. He was a purple iridescent color. We walked in, and this fish saw us and swam toward us. I looked at him, and this fish was looking at me. His eyes were fixed on me. And he would swim in perfect synch alongside me, and follow me, when I moved or walked past the tank... staring the whole time. It was a very small coffeehouse, and after we decided where to sit, he just parked himself right there on that side of the fish tank. He was behind me. Staring at the back of my head. It was surreal - this was a really intense fish - and kind of freaky. I felt badly for him - so much fish in such a small tank like that. We asked the owner about him, and she said he was a 'character' with a 'big personality.' He didn't do this to my friend, just me. He could have been on the Sopranos.

One thing was for certain: this was one extremely intelligent fish...

Research is finding that fish are much smarter than once thought. Minnows can learn to navigate mazes... goldfish are smarter than trout... fish remember for months and more... even in tanks with no hints - they "know" when it's time for lunch... smarty fish...
